Luanne Barile Honored by The Jimmy Fund

The Barile Family is overwhelmed by the incredible gift of $30,000 given to Dana-Farber in memory of Luanne Barile by the Horseshoe Grille Golf Tournament. Luanne's battle with lymphoma was an inspiration to all and this gift is a wonderful testament to her memory. We are forever grateful to all who participated!

Throughout the entire month of October the staff at Barile Family Funeral Home wears pink to honor and remember those who have had breast cancer and those who continue to fight the disease. The staff’s neckties, scarves and handkerchiefs are all pink.

“We decided to bring awareness to this disease many years ago”, Kevin Barile, director , said recently. “Like many other forms of cancer, breast cancer can go undetected for many years. Hopefully the more attention someone brings to it, the better the results will be.”

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer found in women. Although the percentage of cases in men is much lower than in women, male breast cancer accounts for a portion of new cases every year. The disease has no barriers when it comes to gender, ethnicity or race, and anyone could potentially develop it, particularly if they have certain risk factors, such as prior oral contraceptive or hormone use, genetic factors and family history.

“Early detection is so important for breast cancer as well as many other types of cancer,” said Ralph Barile. “By wearing pink for the month of October and during all of our services, we hope people will notice and remember how important it is to bring awareness to such a difficult topic.”
